Smalleyed ray
Raja microocellata
Also known as: Skate
Overview
Smalleyed ray sustainability varies depending on where and how it’s caught.
Many skate and ray species are unsustainable, and because most products are simply labelled as ‘skate wing’, it’s important to know which species you’re buying. If you don’t know the species you’re buying, it’s best to avoid eating it. Skate wings are sold in UK supermarkets, fishmongers, and seafood restaurants.
